NOVEMBER 2014

The entire month of NOVEMBER we are focusing on The Doctrine of the Church.

The copy of the Dashboard reflects performables, or exercises, to apply the Scripture teachings to your life.

The video teaching is replaced this month with a readable .pdf called “The Doctrine of the Church.”

SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION

1 Corinthians 16:13-18 ESV 13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done in love. 15 Now I urge you, brothers--you know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and that they have devoted (addicted) themselves to the service of the saints-- 16 be subject to such as these, and to every fellow worker and laborer. 17 I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have made up for your absence, 18 for they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. Give recognition to such people.

Nov 16 – UNFORGETTABLE ENCOUNTERS – Part 3

Nov 30 – UNFORGETTABLE ENCOUNTERS – Part 5

PERFORMABLES

A performable is an actionable exercise to process through. Write down the answers to each of the below questions. Let your answers be reflective and heart-searching, rather than a task to quickly accomplish.

This month the questions are relative to a downloadable .pdf called “The Doctrine of the Church.” To download go to https://app.box.com/Church-00-Doctrine .

  1. From page 1 of “The Doctrine of the Church” .pdf how important is the church, as God’s only ordained institution to execute His Redemptive purpose in the earth? How important is the local church to God Himself? Define and write down your conceptual understanding of local churches in this context. What would it look like for you to LEAD your heart, household and halls with this kind of clarity?
  2. From page 2 of “The Doctrine of the Church” .pdf what are your thoughts and emotions about churches being imperfect? How do you emotionally process the idea that God knew churches would have failures, harshness, politics, domination and manipulation – from leaders to vocal members – but God still has only one plan for executing His purposes in the earth; the local church?
  3. From page 2 of “The Doctrine of the Church” .pdf it says, “In fact, those who separated themselves (from local church involvement) were considered unregenerate (unsaved).” While we know that a person can be saved and not be in committed attendance to a local church, write down your sober emotions and thoughts as you reflect on God’s passion for the local church.
  4. From page 3-6 of “The Doctrine of the Church” .pdf it describes the four basis ideas of the early church as a foundation for proving God’s intent of membership in a local church. Describe why these points are evidence to the absolute necessity for people to be faithfully committed with their time, talent and treasures to one local church.
  5. From page 7 of “The Doctrine of the Church” .pdf what is your visionary ideas of how a glorious church should look in a post-modern world? Describe explicit facets of what a glorious LifePointe would look like. How would this appeal to pre-Christians? How would this appeal to fully devoted Christians? What would make this different than most people’s ideas of church?

PERFORMABLES

A performable is an actionable exercise to process through. Write down the answers to each of the below questions. Let your answers be reflective and heart-searching, rather than a task to quickly accomplish.

Singles and those without children answer from the role of a counselor.

  1. What does Genesis 18:18-19 mean to you to “command your children” after you to keep the way of the Lord? Define and write down your conceptual understanding of PARENTING in this context. What would it look like for you to step up as a PARENT and lead your household with this kind of clarity?
  2. “Commanding your children” is a choice; you either intentionally leading your family or you are not. What thoughts or emotions do you think keeps a person from leading with this priority in the home? Would faithful attendance to church, LifeGroups, strategically leading teenagers to Surge Nights, and household prayer/devotions be a part of this? What would that look like in YOUR home?
  3. How would “commanding your children” show up with your time, talents, and treasures? What changes will you have to make to your calendar and resources to model this?
  4. Does “commanding your children” require a PARENT to possess and model passion for Christ? Write down your understanding of why PARENTS fail to have passion to lead this as the first priority?
  5. How does “commanding your children” reflect the true heart of a PARENT? Why do PARENTS often seem to allow the desires of the family trump their leadership of mandating systems (Church, LifeGroups, Surge, personal devotions, etc.) for seeking God’s kingdom first? How does prioritizing church attendance figure into this? Write down your thoughts and emotions as you consider these items?
