The entire month of OCTOBER we are focusing on leading in
the homes by “commanding your children” in the ways of Christ.
The copy of the Dashboard is now going to reflect
performables, or exercises, to apply the Scripture teachings to your life.
The video teaching is selected to provoke thoughts about health
and help you walk a path of unhindered heart affection towards the Lord, your
spouse, your children and yourself.
SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION

[Abraham], in order that he may command his children and his household after

PERFORMABLES
A performable is an actionable exercise to process through. Write down
the answers to each of the below questions. Let your answers be reflective and
heart-searching, rather than a task to quickly accomplish.
Singles and those without children answer from the role of a counselor.
- What does Genesis 18:18-19 mean to you to “command your children” after you to keep the way of the Lord? Define and write down your conceptual understanding of PARENTING in this context. What would it look like for you to step up as a PARENT and lead your household with this kind of clarity?
- “Commanding your children” is a choice; you either intentionally leading your family or you are not. What thoughts or emotions do you think keeps a person from leading with this priority in the home? Would faithful attendance to church, LifeGroups, strategically leading teenagers to Surge Nights, and household prayer/devotions be a part of this? What would that look like in YOUR home?
- How would “commanding your children” show up with your time, talents, and treasures? What changes will you have to make to your calendar and resources to model this?
- Does “commanding your children” require a PARENT to possess and model passion for Christ? Write down your understanding of why PARENTS fail to have passion to lead this as the first priority?
- How does “commanding your children” reflect the true heart of a PARENT? Why do PARENTS often seem to allow the desires of the family trump their leadership of mandating systems (Church, LifeGroups, Surge, personal devotions, etc.) for seeking God’s kingdom first? How does prioritizing church attendance figure into this? Write down your thoughts and emotions as you consider these items?
