With a self-focused approach to relating with God Christians often
approach God as a consumer. But worship is giving God experience with a human
that loves Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. The goal of
worship isn’t to leverage encounters for ourselves, but to give God encounters
of our adoration. Worship is esteeming God’s value. Of course God’s desires
that we encounter Him. But our selfish, limited motivations can diminish the
entire purpose and relational richness. This must become a fundamental part of
our development in relationship with God.

Loved hearing Dallas... thanks for sharing this message and resource, Pastor. :) "When we do experience Him, our hearts come alive, our faith rises, our vision becomes clear and we become libeated from all oppression..." yes!
ReplyDeleteQuestion: what is the difference between praise and worship? (Or is there one?)
Thank you Bethany!!
DeleteGood question. Praise seems to be dilenated in Scripture as the vocal, physcial and/or instrumental expression of adoration to God. Many times in Psalms it says, "Praise Him with the…". Worship, by definition, means to esteem worth or value; "worth-ship." Because the word worship has an intimate feel many people think of it as the portion of a tender song giving soft, emotional adoration to the Lord. Technically though worship is when we give God worth and high value through our lifestyle and heart affections, both in song and in our routine life moments. Rom 12:1 says that we are to bring our bodies to God as a living sacrifice which is our reasonable worship (Greek). I hope that helps.
